The Challenge for Nature

There is no doubt that the natural world is under pressure, like never before. However, we know that conservation works, but only if it is adequately resourced.

The current annual funding gap for nature is estimated to be approximately $800 billion. An enormous sum. Yet, when we put this in the context of the $44 trillion of global GDP highly reliant on nature this seems not only an achievable sum through collaborative effort but a small price to pay for the species, wild places and ecosystem services that we rely upon for our physical needs and cherish for our spiritual needs.

However, my favourite saying, one that is etched on the bracelet I wear every day, is that ‘it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness’.  That is what the act of strategic, informed and joyful giving does – it lights candles for nature.  By adding our own light to the world, we create a glow where nature can thrive. If we do not act, in the end, the only candles we will light will be in requiem for what is lost.

The world of nature conservation is dynamic and loss does not need to be inevitable.

New techniques, new approaches and the advent of a clear path of conservation optimism means that hope is real and your giving commitment to nature can find an effective home.

The Challenge for Philanthropy

Protection of the natural world, be it species, wild places or entire ecosystems, is complex.  Where to give to be most impactful?  The rapid loss of biodiversity and our changing climate can be overwhelming for even the most experienced donor.

How can you ensure that your philanthropy not only honours the things that matter to you but that are effective, amplifying your gift and making it work as hard as possible.  It can seem like a confusing maze.

Ferox Philanthropy can be your guide in this unfamiliar landscape.
